Winfried Anton Schäfer

Accra, Ghana – The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced significant changes to the Black Stars’ technical team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.  

German tactician Winfried Anton Schäfer has been appointed as Technical Advisor to head coach Otto Addo. Schäfer, a highly experienced coach with over four decades in football management, brings a wealth of expertise, including leading Cameroon to victory in the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations.

He will also serve as the GFA’s Director of Football. His extensive career includes managing national teams like Cameroon, Thailand, and Jamaica, as well as top European clubs.  

Desmond Ofei, Ghana’s Under-20 coach and recent SWAG Coach of the Year, joins the technical team, bringing his tactical expertise.

Belgian sports psychologist Kris Perquy, with 17 years of experience, has been named the team psychologist.  

Belgian expert Gregory De Grauwe, a UEFA License B holder, will head the video analysis department.  

Two experienced equipment officers, Issah Amadou and Abdul Rahman Alhassan, have also been appointed.  

These appointments reflect the GFA’s commitment to strengthening the Black Stars’ technical setup for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
