Over 1,500 people have died and more than 8,000 sustained injuries in road accidents across Ghana between January and June 2025, according to provisional figures released by the National Road Safety Authority (NSRA) in collaboration with the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

The report indicates a total of 7,289 crashes involving 12,354 vehicles during the six-month period. In addition, 1,301 pedestrians were reported to have been knocked down.

Daily Toll of Road Accidents

The NSRA’s data underscores the staggering human cost of road traffic incidents in Ghana. On average:

  • 8 people die in road crashes every day
  • 40 accidents occur daily
  • 46 individuals are injured each day
  • 69 vehicles or motorcycles are involved in daily collisions

Authorities Call for Urgent Action

In response to the disturbing figures, the NSRA has renewed its appeal for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and intensified public education campaigns to help reverse the growing trend of road fatalities and injuries.

Officials warn that without immediate action, road accidents will continue to claim lives and place immense strain on the healthcare system and national productivity.
