The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has announced the cancellation of the One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) Programme, a flagship initiative of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
According to Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare, the ministry is now focusing on agro-processing parks under the 24-hour economy policy, aimed at making Ghana’s economy vibrant around the clock.
The Minister stated that the agro-parks would be a game-changer, especially in agro-processing zones, producing for import substitution, export, and job creation.
The announcement was made in Parliament when Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare responded to an urgent question by NPP MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who asked about incentives and investment promotion packages to attract private sector investment following the cancellation of 1D1F.
The Minister revealed that the policy for the 24-hour economy, including investment packages, is under review and will be presented to Parliament upon completion.
However, she attributed the cancellation of 1D1F to the previous administration, stating she couldn’t provide reasons for the cancellation.
