A young farmer, Wisabu Kwame, aged 24, has been remanded into custody by the Nkwanta South Magistrate Court for his alleged involvement in the death of his five-year-old daughter.
The alleged incident took place on April 27, 2025, in the farming community of Pawa, situated in the Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region.
According to police prosecutor Detective Bright Nkansah, the child reportedly soiled herself while accompanying her father on the farm. In response, Kwame is alleged to have physically assaulted her until she lost consciousness. She was rushed to a nearby health facility and later referred to the Nkwanta St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. George Valentine Arhine, ordered that the suspect be remanded for two weeks to allow for a thorough police investigation. Authorities are expected to gather additional evidence to assist in the prosecution process.
The case has drawn concern from local residents and advocacy groups, who are calling for swift justice in the matter.
