National Security operatives have arrested eight Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian in connection with the disappearance of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers at the Tema Port.
The arrests followed the discovery of cables, believed to be from the missing shipment, at an aluminum smelting facility in Shai Hills owned by the Chinese suspects.
Security forces raided the facility based on intelligence.
This development follows Energy Minister John Jinapor’s announcement of a criminal investigation into the disappearance of over 1,300 ECG containers containing electrical cables and other vital equipment.
Jinapor emphasized the need for a thorough forensic probe involving National Security, port authorities, clearing companies, ECG, and all stakeholders to determine how the containers were removed and their final destination.
He vowed that those responsible would be held accountable.
