Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced that if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is elected president in 2025, nurses in Ghana will be able to import vehicles with engine capacities of less than 1.8 liters duty-free.
During a visit to the Korle Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training Institute in Accra on October 23, Dr. Prempeh, also known as Napo, shared this promise, which generated enthusiasm among the nursing students in attendance.
“Dr. Bawumia, the future president of Ghana, will ensure free duty on vehicles with engines under 1.8 liters for nurses,” Napo stated.
He emphasized the NPP’s recognition of the crucial role nurses play in the nation’s healthcare system and assured attendees that a Bawumia-led government would implement policies to enhance their livelihoods.
“The NPP values the essential contributions of our nurses to healthcare delivery, and we are committed to improving your quality of life,” he remarked. “Along with the duty-free vehicle imports, we will introduce other significant initiatives to support you.”
Additionally, Napo confirmed that the nursing trainee allowance, introduced by the NPP, will continue under a Bawumia administration. He warned that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Mahama would likely eliminate this allowance if they returned to power.
“Former President Mahama and the NDC do not support the nursing trainee allowance. If they win, it will be cut, making your lives more challenging. So, I urge you to reject the NDC,” he advised.
Dr. Prempeh also highlighted the NPP government’s commitment to completing the Agenda 111 hospital projects, which he said would enhance healthcare infrastructure and create job opportunities for nurses and healthcare professionals.
He encouraged nurses and nursing trainees to support Dr. Bawumia and vote for all 275 NPP parliamentary candidates, asserting, “The NPP cares for our nurses.”
