The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has issued a strong warning to the public, urging against any form of electoral misconduct ahead of the December elections.
He made it clear that anyone found guilty of such actions will face severe legal consequences.
Dr. Dampare’s remarks came during the inauguration of a new police station in Akyem-Manso, Eastern Region, where he assured Ghanaians of the police service’s full preparedness to ensure a peaceful election process.
He outlined proactive measures to detect and address potential threats to public order before they escalate.
“Do not allow yourself to be dragged into creating chaos on election day,” he cautioned. “Those who try to provoke you into unlawful acts will abandon you the moment you’re caught—when you are arrested, they’ll disappear and leave you to face the consequences.”
The IGP also called on citizens to exercise their right to vote peacefully, stressing the importance of respecting the democratic process and the rights of others during the election.
Reaffirming the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order, Dr. Dampare assured the public that the police service is ready to secure a peaceful environment for the elections, ensuring that the process remains free and fair.
“We are fully prepared for the elections, and I can assure you they will be peaceful,” Dr. Dampare concluded, urging all Ghanaians to join efforts in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
