A recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics suggests that John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is favored to win the upcoming December 2024 elections.
The poll indicates that Mahama has the support of 51.9% of respondents, while the ruling party’s candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, follows with 40.5%.
Other candidates include Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen with 2.1%, Nana Kwame Bediako at 4.7%, and the remaining candidates collectively receiving 0.7%.
Conducted from November 11 to 16, the poll shows that while the race is tightening in key swing regions such as Greater Accra, Central, and Western, the ruling party is losing ground in the Akan and Northern regions as the election date approaches.
In the swing regions, Mahama leads with 51.1%, compared to Bawumia’s 39.5%. Kyerematen captures 2.0%, Bediako stands at 7.0%, and other candidates account for 0.4%. In the Akan regions, Bawumia has a slight edge with 46.6%, while Mahama is close behind at 44.5%. Kyerematen and Bediako receive 2.6% and 5.6%, respectively, with others at 0.9%.
The Northern regions show a significant lead for Mahama at 64.7%, while Bawumia has 33.9%. Both Kyerematen and Bediako are at 0.7%. In the Volta and Oti regions, Mahama also dominates with 72.7%, leaving Bawumia at 19.7%, Kyerematen at 2.2%, and Bediako at 3.3%.
Over the past six weeks, the polling average reveals Mahama leading in 13 regions, while Bawumia leads in three, including the traditionally strongholds of the ruling party, Ahafo and Bono.
Among floating or independent voters, Mahama has a commanding lead with 63%, followed by Bediako at 17%, Bawumia at 13%, Kyerematen at 5%, and others at 2%. Among first-time voters, who make up about 5% of total registered voters, Mahama again leads with 48%, while Bawumia has 39%, Bediako at 8%, and Kyerematen at 5%.
