The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its intention to hold Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare and other security leaders accountable for any deaths that may occur during the 2024 general elections.
The party is urging the IGP and relevant security agencies to implement stronger measures to ensure the safety of citizens in the lead-up to the elections.
During a press conference on November 19, 2024, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, stressed the importance of preventing any loss of life during the electoral process. He stated, “The NDC and the people of Ghana will hold the IGP, the Chief of Defence Staff, and our security leaders responsible for any loss of life in the 2024 general elections. Elections should focus on counting heads, not cutting them. No one should die for the sake of elections.”
Gyamfi expressed optimism about the party’s prospects, asserting that the citizens of Ghana will choose their candidate, John Dramani Mahama. “We are confident that Ghanaians will opt for a leader who values truth and integrity over one who shuns honesty,” he added.
