The Electoral Commission (EC) has called on the public to ignore claims made by Kumasi-based media personality Oheneba Nana Asiedu regarding voting for presidential candidates on different days during the upcoming December general elections.
Asiedu was arrested by the Ghana Police Service on Saturday, November 23, 2024, for allegedly spreading false information. He had been invited for questioning by the Ashanti Regional Police Command after encouraging voters to cast their ballots on separate days.
The police characterized his statements as “false and likely to disturb the public peace,” prompting the arrest. Following his release on bail, Asiedu’s claims quickly gained traction on social media.
In a statement released on Sunday, November 24, the EC clarified, “The Electoral Commission urges the public to disregard these misleading statements.” It confirmed that the general elections are scheduled for December 7, 2024, with voting taking place from 7 AM to 5 PM.
The EC encourages all voters to participate in the elections and to do so in an orderly manner.
