Kim Min-jae's first-half goal was his first in the Champions League

Bayern Munich strengthened their chances of securing a top-eight finish in the Champions League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, who continue their winless run in the competition since September.

Defender Kim Min-jae scored the only goal of the match seven minutes before halftime, heading in from close range after PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov mishandled Joshua Kimmich’s inswinging corner.

PSG’s frustrations grew as Ousmane Dembélé, already on a yellow card for arguing with referee Istvan Kovacs in the first half, was sent off in the second period for a late challenge on Alphonso Davies, earning a second booking.

Bayern looked to seal the win late on when Jamal Musiala’s shot was brilliantly tipped onto the post by Safonov, but Kim’s first-half header proved to be the decisive moment.

The win was a deserved one for Bayern, who dominated possession throughout the match at Allianz Arena. Under manager Vincent Kompany, the six-time European champions seem to be regaining their momentum in the competition after suffering back-to-back defeats to Aston Villa and Barcelona.

Bayern started strongly, with Musiala coming close to scoring within the first seven minutes, but his effort was saved by Safonov after collecting a well-placed ball from Kimmich.

PSG had their chances too, with Warren Zaire-Emery squandering a chance from Fabian Ruiz’s cutback and Dembélé forcing a fine save from Manuel Neuer in the first half. However, once again, PSG were left to regret their missed opportunities as Bayern claimed the three points.
