The Ghana Police Service is investigating 88 individuals who were apprehended on two Metro Mass Transit buses in Benchema, near Asawinso, in the Western North Region.
The arrests took place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
According to preliminary police findings, the individuals were allegedly recruited by a man identified only as “Sammy” from various locations in the Greater Accra Region, including Adenta, Oyarifa, and Madina.
They were reportedly being transported to the Western North Region to provide security at polling stations during the upcoming elections.
The detained individuals are currently in police custody and are assisting with the investigation.
Authorities are actively searching for Sammy, the suspected recruiter, to further advance the inquiry.
