John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has confirmed receiving a congratulatory call from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following his victory in the 2024 presidential election.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Mahama wrote, “I received a congratulatory call this morning from my brother, Dr. Bawumia, following my emphatic victory in Saturday’s election.”

Earlier, Dr. Bawumia addressed the nation on Sunday, December 8, acknowledging Mahama’s win and offering his full support for the peaceful transition of power. “I have just called President-elect John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him,” Bawumia stated. “As I mentioned during the signing of the peace pact, I assured that Ghana will win, and peace will reign. The people of Ghana have spoken and voted for change, and we respect that decision with all humility. I thank Almighty God for how far He has brought me, and I submit to His will.”

Bawumia also confirmed that, based on their internal coalition of election results, Mahama had won decisively. “The NDC has also won the parliamentary elections, although we are still awaiting the final coalition for several seats. However, this will not change the overall outcome,” he added.

The NDC is now projected to have secured both the presidency and a majority in Parliament.
