President-elect John Dramani Mahama has expressed heartfelt gratitude to God and the Ghanaian people for his resounding victory in the 2024 presidential election, attributing his success to divine guidance and unwavering public support.
In his statement following the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission on December 9, Mahama quoted scripture, saying, “I thank God for preparing a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” Reflecting on the hurdles faced throughout the campaign, he acknowledged the overwhelming support that helped him secure one of the most decisive electoral victories in Ghana’s history.
Mahama won with 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55% of the total, significantly outpacing his rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) also claimed a parliamentary majority, gaining seats in traditionally NPP-dominated constituencies.
The results of the December 7 election reaffirmed Mahama’s leadership and positioned the NDC to shape Ghana’s political landscape in the coming years.
