President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed the members of the Government’s Transition Team, as stipulated by the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), to facilitate a smooth handover of power following the 2024 general elections.

A statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, confirmed that these appointments align with Section 1 (1) of the Transition Act. The following individuals have been selected to serve on the Transition Team:

  • Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare – Chief of Staff (Head of the Presidential Staff, appointed under the Presidential Office Act, 1993, Act 463)
  • Godfred Yeboah Dame – Attorney-General
  • Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu – Minister for Parliamentary Affairs
  • Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam – Minister for Finance
  • Hon. Henry Quartey – Minister for the Interior
  • Hon. Dominic Nitiwul – Minister for Defence
  • Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey – Minister for Foreign Affairs
  • Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah – Minister for Local Government
  • Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah – Minister for National Security

Additionally, in accordance with Section 1 (2) of the Act, the following officials will also join the team:

  • Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh – Head of Civil Service
  • Dr. Nana Ato Arthur – Head of the Local Government Service
  • Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari – Secretary to the Cabinet
  • Mr. Edward Asomani – National Security Coordinator

The Transition Team will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, following a meeting between President Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Mahama, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons of the team. In the absence of the President, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare will act as Co-Chairperson.

As per Section 5 (1) of the Act, President Akufo-Addo has also appointed Rt. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, the former Speaker of Parliament, to serve on the Advisory Council. The Chairperson of this Council will be Rt. Alban Bagbin, the current Speaker of Parliament.

The statement also noted that President-elect John Mahama, as of Tuesday evening, had announced the members of his side of the Transition Team.

The primary objective of the Transition Team is to ensure a smooth, efficient transfer of executive power, in line with the law, to guarantee stability and continuity in governance.

President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful transition and the further strengthening of Ghana’s democratic process.
