A fire ripped through the Race Course Market in Kumasi early Tuesday morning, December 17th, 2024, leaving over 30 shops in ruin.
The blaze, which reportedly began around 1:00 am, primarily affected metal containers and wooden structures occupied by traders dealing in watermelons, grapes, and cold storage. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The Ghana Fire Service responded swiftly, deploying three fire engines to contain the flames and prevent further destruction. However, the fire caused significant damage, leaving many traders devastated by the loss of their businesses and livelihoods.
Naomi Serwaa, leader of the Watermelon Sellers Association, issued a desperate plea for assistance. She urged the government and other charitable organizations to come to the aid of the affected traders during this difficult time.
