President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has lauded Ghana’s 2024 elections as a clear demonstration of the country’s robust democratic system.
During the inauguration of a new office complex for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on December 17, the president celebrated the peaceful conduct of the elections, which he said strengthened Ghana’s democratic credentials.
He expressed optimism about the nation’s democratic future, highlighting that the elections confirmed the firm foundation on which Ghana’s democracy stands.
“The successful presidential and parliamentary elections held on December 7, 2024, are a clear testament to the resilience of our democracy,” Akufo-Addo remarked.
He also praised Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, for his gracious concession, calling it a powerful symbol of the peaceful nature of the electoral process and a reminder of democracy’s vital role in fostering national unity.
Former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a decisive victory in the presidential race with 56.55% of the vote, amounting to 6,328,397 votes, while Dr. Bawumia received 4,657,304 votes.
However, despite the completion of the presidential election, the outcome of 12 parliamentary constituencies remains unresolved as their results are still pending.
