The Deputy Director of Research at the Electoral Commission (EC), Fred Tetteh, has blamed widespread lawlessness from political parties and their supporters for the need to re-collate some parliamentary results.

According to Tetteh, the Commission was unable to complete its work in several constituencies due to disruptions caused by these incidents.

The affected constituencies include Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Dome Kwabenya.

Speaking on the Big Issues programme on Channel One TV on Saturday, December 21, 2024, Fred Tetteh expressed concern over the electoral disruptions in these regions, stressing that such incidents undermined the integrity of the process.

He called for stronger enforcement of electoral laws and urged political parties to maintain discipline among their supporters to prevent future disruptions during elections.

“When you look at what has happened, especially in these 12 constituencies, it boils down to lawlessness—rampant disruptions, besieging, and preventing our officials from carrying out their duties,” Tetteh said. “Supporters, candidates, and others intervened to disrupt the process, which led to this situation.”
