The Agona West Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled 280 members, including the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Cynthia Morrison, effective December 16, 2024.
The expulsion was confirmed unanimously during an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on December 15, 2024.
The decision follows complaints lodged by party members against those expelled for engaging in activities contrary to the party’s interests, including standing as independent candidates, supporting other political parties, and backing independent candidates during the recent parliamentary elections.
As part of the expulsion, the affected individuals have been banned indefinitely from identifying as NPP members, holding any official party positions, participating in party meetings or activities, and using the party’s symbols or flags.
Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the Constituency Chairman, communicated the decision in a statement dated December 16, emphasizing that the NPP’s constitution requires such disciplinary measures to uphold the unity and integrity of the party.
