President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resolving Ghana’s energy crisis and ensuring a consistent power supply to prevent a return of the notorious Dumsor outages.

Addressing the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana on January 9, President Mahama highlighted his government’s proactive efforts to stabilise the energy sector.

He acknowledged the current challenges, including fuel shortages for thermal plants and delays in pipeline maintenance by the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo), but reassured Ghanaians that measures are in place to avert power shortages.

“We are facing significant challenges, but you elected us to solve them, not shift blame. Rest assured, we will ensure your lights stay on,” President Mahama stated confidently.

This assurance follows WAPCo’s agreement to delay its planned pipeline maintenance by two weeks after successful negotiations led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah’s technical committee.

The postponement averts a potential power crisis flagged by GRIDCo, which warned that fuel shortages and gas supply disruptions could cripple power generation.

President Mahama urged citizens to remain hopeful, pledging transparency and accountability as his government tackles the energy sector’s pressing issues head-on.
