President John Dramani Mahama has expressed the tough challenge of appointing only 60 ministers while facing an overwhelming flood of CVs from eager candidates.
Speaking at a Presidential Dinner in Accra on January 8, he emphasized the need to build a capable team to fulfill his promises to the nation.
Mahama acknowledged the high expectations surrounding his administration’s leaner government model, admitting, “You wouldn’t want to be in my shoes when you’ve promised to appoint only 60 ministers, yet thousands of people are sending in their CVs. Some will inevitably be disappointed.”
Despite the tough task, he reassured the public that the success of the administration goes beyond ministerial roles, stating, “The success of this administration will secure us another term, perhaps under a different leader. But we must get this right so that Ghanaians can continue to have confidence in us.”
He also reflected on the need to learn from the mistakes of the past, adding that the previous administration’s arrogance and incompetence led to a loss of public trust. “There’s no use fighting for political power if we are coming to repeat the same mistakes,” Mahama cautioned.
