The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) has blamed the current food crisis in Senior High Schools (SHSs) on the previous Akufo-Addo administration’s decision to limit PTA activities.
He argues that the ban on PTA activities and the perceived intimidation of headmasters regarding the Free SHS policy have negatively impacted the smooth operation of schools.
The PTA chairman disagrees with the recent appeal by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) for parents to assist with feeding shortages, emphasizing that not all parents have the financial means to contribute. He stressed the importance of involving PTAs in finding sustainable solutions to the food crisis.
The chairman revealed plans to engage with both school authorities and parents to discuss potential solutions to the ongoing challenges.
This situation highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the implementation of the Free SHS policy and its impact on the education system in Ghana.
