Former GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has urged the current football administration to urgently address the deepening crisis within the Black Stars by engaging a sports psychologist.
Nyantakyi expressed concerns about the team’s recent struggles, culminating in their historic failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. He believes that psychological factors are significantly impacting the team’s performance, affecting both players and the technical staff.
Pointing to an incident where Head Coach Otto Addo stormed the pitch after a late goal against Niger, Nyantakyi emphasized the need for professional psychological intervention. “This incident clearly demonstrates the presence of underlying psychological issues within the team,” Nyantakyi stated in an interview with Asempa FM.
With crucial World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar looming in March, Nyantakyi stressed the urgency of addressing these psychological challenges. He believes that the intervention of a qualified sports psychologist could play a vital role in improving the team’s mental fortitude and ultimately, their performance on the field.
