A 39-year-old carpenter, Peter Asamoah, has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labor after pleading guilty to defiling the nine-year-old daughter of his former partner.

The incident occurred in Yareyeya, a community within the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality. On November 7, 2024, while the child was left home alone, Asamoah lured her to his residence and sexually assaulted her.

A neighbor, Kwakye, heard the child’s cries and intervened, preventing further harm. The victim, initially hesitant to speak out, eventually disclosed the abuse to her mother on November 10th.

Following the mother’s confrontation, Asamoah confessed to the crime but begged for forgiveness. The mother subsequently reported the incident to the police.

Asamoah was arrested and taken to the Western Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tarkwa. A medical examination conducted at Apinto Government Hospital confirmed the defilement.

The case was brought before the Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu. Despite Asamoah’s plea for leniency, citing intoxication as a mitigating factor, the court handed down the 20-year sentence.
