President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
This appointment, effective immediately, signifies the government’s commitment to establishing the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key policy outlined in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.
Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced the appointment, emphasizing the administration’s focus on economic revitalization and sustainable development through the GoldBod initiative.
Mandate of the Ghana Gold Board
The GoldBod, operating under the Ministry of Finance, will play a crucial role in the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources, ensuring maximum benefits for the Ghanaian people.
Key responsibilities of the GoldBod will include formalizing the small-scale gold mining sector and providing comprehensive support services to the mining industry.
Profile of Sammy Gyamfi
Sammy Gyamfi, a lawyer and economic policy analyst, brings a wealth of experience to this role. He holds a BSc in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Law from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is also a Barrister at Law and holds an MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana.
Furthermore, Gyamfi is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School, having completed Executive Certificates in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership Programmes.
Prior to this appointment, Gyamfi served as the National Communications Officer of the NDC and has previously worked with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a reputable mining company in Ghana.
