Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has donated 250 packets of roofing sheets, amounting to 5,000 individual pieces, along with ridge caps to support the rebuilding efforts of traders affected by the recent fire at Kantamanto Market.

The donation was presented on Dr. Bawumia’s behalf by former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, and his team.

Earlier, Dr. Bawumia had contributed GH¢200,000 to assist the traders in their recovery from the devastating fire.

Speaking to Channel One News, Titus Glover stressed the importance of insurance coverage for traders to protect their businesses from future calamities. He also mentioned that once the market reconstruction is complete, Dr. Bawumia would provide CCTV cameras to enhance security in the area.

“I want to remind the traders of what His Excellency the Vice President said during his visit – that they should take insurance very seriously. Given how frequent these fires have become, it’s crucial that they secure insurance for their activities. Security is also vital, and traders should have their own internal security arrangements,” Glover said. “Dr. Bawumia has promised to support the market with CCTV cameras once the reconstruction is finished, providing a silent police force to monitor activities and ensure safety.”

The Financial Secretary of Kantamanto Market, Yaw Sarpong, expressed deep gratitude for the generous donation of roofing sheets.

“He came here and gave us GH¢200,000, which was already very helpful. We didn’t expect him to return, but he’s back with 250 packets of roofing sheets, which is more than enough to help us roof our structure. We are truly thankful,” Sarpong said.
