Accra, Ghana – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has established a special investigative team to probe deaths that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
This move follows a directive from President John Mahama, who, in a letter dated January 10th, 2025, instructed the IGP to investigate these incidents.
The investigative team, comprised of highly skilled and experienced officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, will be led by Chief Superintendent Joseph Nanegbe.
The IGP has assured the President that all necessary resources will be made available to the team to ensure a thorough and effective investigation.
The team’s work will build upon the ongoing investigations conducted by the CID’s Cold Case Unit, which was established by Dr. Dampare upon assuming office in 2021 to address unresolved crimes.
The Cold Case Unit has already made significant progress in investigating the 2020 election-related deaths, with some suspects currently facing prosecution.
