Takoradi, Ghana – The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has initiated preparatory work for its mandatory 28-day maintenance shutdown.
In an interview, WAPCo’s Takoradi Regulatory and Metering Station at the Aboadze Thermal plant on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, where Operations and Maintenance Manager for WAPCo West, Engineer Benoni Owusu Ayeh, confirmed that the maintenance work is expected to be completed within the allocated timeframe.
“We are also using the opportunity to fix our sub-sea valves. We had some issues with them, especially Tema and Cotonou. We will use the opportunity to replace them and also carry out some onshore activities,” Engineer Ayeh explained. “We have synchronised our activities, this is the longest shutdown and we do this every 5 years. We don’t normally shut down for this long period of time. We have synchronised everything to optimise it to ensure we keep our pipeline in check. The integrity of the pipeline is key.”
WAPCo had previously announced a two-week postponement of the maintenance exercise, known as “pigging,” to accommodate stakeholder interests.
Originally scheduled for January 20, 2025, the maintenance work will now begin on February 3, 2025.
