In his latest BBC Sport column, Alan Shearer shares his thoughts on Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak after meeting him this week. Shearer was struck by how much Isak enjoys life at the club and his continued improvement as a player.
Shearer describes Isak as a manager’s dream, citing his professionalism and focus on football. Unlike many of his peers, Isak’s name rarely makes headlines off the pitch, which is a testament to his dedication and lifestyle.
“I went back to my old club to meet Isak for BBC Sport,” Shearer explains. “I was hugely impressed by his determination and focus, and it was clear just how happy he is at Newcastle.”
Isak is known for his quiet, down-to-earth nature. He prefers to live a low-key life, spending his free time walking his dog rather than hitting the town, a lifestyle that Shearer believes works in his favor, especially from the perspective of manager Eddie Howe.
Despite being reserved off the field, Isak is well-liked by his teammates. Shearer notes that while Isak is unassuming, he is also friendly and enjoys a laugh in the dressing room. However, he lets his performances on the pitch do most of the talking.
You can watch Shearer’s full interview with Isak on Football Focus this Saturday at 12:00 GMT on BBC One, with an extended version available on BBC iPlayer.
