Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has given illegal miners operating in water bodies and forest reserves a two-week deadline to vacate, warning that failure to comply will lead to legal consequences.

At his inaugural media briefing, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the government’s commitment to combatting illegal mining, stating that the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council would deploy enforcement teams to ensure adherence to environmental laws and safeguard protected areas.

“The President has directed that all illegal miners in forest reserves vacate within two weeks. Anyone found after the deadline will face the full force of the law,” he declared.

He also issued a strong warning to those mining in water bodies, stressing, “All mining activities on water bodies must cease immediately. You have two weeks to leave, or enforcement teams will intervene to restore order.”

Additionally, Dr. Amoakohene highlighted the region’s 618 stalled infrastructure projects and vowed to prioritize their completion.
