Prosecution reevaluates legal approach, leaving football fans and the public questioning the case’s direction

The prosecution has dropped charges against four suspects, including Akosua Black Chinese and Yaa Asantewaa, who were initially linked to the murder of Francis Yaw Frimpong, known as Nana Pooley.

The fatal stabbing occurred on February 2, 2025, at Nana Kromansah Park during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, sending shockwaves through the football community and the nation.

The case, which was first presented before the Fiapre Circuit Court, has now taken a new turn. The prosecution, led by the Bono Regional Police Headquarters, plans to resubmit the case to the Sunyani District Court as investigations continue. Seven arrests have been made in connection to the tragic incident.

Among the arrested was Ignatius Baffour Awuah, former MP and owner of Nsoatreman FC, who has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on February 17, 2025.

Other suspects, including Isaac Fosu, Yeboah Augustine, Elizabeth Akosua Ntiwa (aka Akosua Black Chinese), and Yaa Asantewaa, had faced charges of abetment to murder under Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act.

Meanwhile, two suspects—Briamah (Rasta) and Yaw Koshy—remain at large. Briamah is also facing a direct murder charge.

The suspects were initially denied bail on February 7, 2025, by Her Honour Akua Addae Adoma, who cited jurisdictional limitations over felony cases. However, on February 10, 2025, the judge dismissed the case following a formal request from lead prosecutor Inspector Alexander Oppong to withdraw the charges.

This decision has raised questions about the strength of the evidence against the accused and the reasons behind the withdrawal of charges. As the investigation continues, the public is eagerly awaiting further developments and clarity on the case.
