Accra, Ghana – Prophet Elisha Salifu Amoako, founder of Alive Chapel International Church, his wife, and Linda Bonsu Bempah were re-arrested shortly after being discharged by an Accra Circuit Court on Monday, February 17, 2025. The re-arrest followed the Attorney General’s (AG) decision to withdraw charges against them.
The AG, represented by State Attorney Yaw Acquah, informed the court of the decision to withdraw the charges to allow for further investigation. The outcome of this investigation will determine the next steps in the case.
The trio had been charged with “permitting an unlicensed person to drive,” an offense linked to a fatal accident in Accra where a 16-year-old driver killed two children. They pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of GH₵50,000 each with two sureties.
Prior to the re-arrest, the State Attorney told the court, presided over by Judge Samuel Bright Acquah, that the withdrawal was necessary for further police investigation.
The defense lawyers did not object to the withdrawal. Judge Acquah subsequently discharged the accused, stating, “The prayer for the Attorney General is granted, and the matter struck out as withdrawn. The accused persons are discharged.”
However, upon leaving the courtroom, Bishop Amoako, his wife, and Ms. Bonsu Bempah were immediately re-arrested. The reason for the re-arrest and whether new charges will be filed remains unclear.
