President John Dramani Mahama is championing the cause of reparative justice for Africans and people of African descent at the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He emphasized the urgent need for strong legal and institutional frameworks to drive this agenda forward, highlighting the importance of collaboration among European nations, regional economic bodies, and international partners.
Mahama referenced the Accra Reparations Conference held in November 2023, which played a crucial role in shaping advocacy and policy strategies for comprehensive reparatory justice.
He also called for unity among African leaders, stressing the need for stronger tax compliance to bridge the continent’s financial gaps and drive sustainable development.
He emphasized that addressing this gap requires a multifaceted approach, including domestic resource mobilization, improved tax administration, and combating illicit financial flows.
President Mahama has since returned to Ghana.
