The Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Be-Awuribe, has expressed serious concerns about the potential for the Bawku conflict to spread into the Savannah Region.

Recent security incidents in Walewale, linked to the Bawku crisis, have heightened these fears.

Following a stakeholder meeting, the Minister stressed the need for urgent attention to the security situation to prevent escalation. He emphasized proactive security measures to address potential threats stemming from the chieftaincy dispute.

Minister Be-Awuribe explained that the Savannah Region’s proximity to the conflict zone makes it vulnerable to infiltration by those seeking to expand the violence. He cited the recent disturbances in Walewale as evidence of this spillover.

“The spillover of the Bawku Chieftaincy issues is affecting the Savannah region,” he stated.

He noted the diversion of traffic due to the conflict and the risk of individuals transporting the conflict into the Savannah Region. “And this is something that we are taking seriously,” he added, emphasizing the need for robust security measures to prevent further spread of the instability.
