Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has acknowledged that Ghana is currently facing significant challenges, but expressed optimism after President John Dramani Mahama’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA).

In his speech on Thursday, February 27, President Mahama vowed to tackle the country’s economic struggles and restore the nation’s stability.

Following the address, Bagbin shared his thoughts on the nation’s situation via Facebook. He expressed concern over the country’s struggles, stating, “Clearly, our country is not in good shape. The decay is massive. Ghana, an African icon, is at our lowest point.”

Despite the severity of the situation, Bagbin found renewed hope in President Mahama’s speech. He described the address as rejuvenating, remarking, “It’s stimulating confidence about quick recovery, resetting, and restoration to a more rewarding investment climate and social justice.”

Bagbin, a strong advocate for persons with disabilities, also praised the government’s initiative to make tertiary education free for disabled individuals, calling it a bold and positive step.

“As a passionate advocate for persons with disabilities, I am particularly happy about the bold move of Government to make tertiary education free for persons considered disabled,” Bagbin noted. “God bless our dear nation Ghana!”
