President John Dramani Mahama has assured that the Sewua Hospital will be completed by the end of this year. He emphasized his commitment to finishing projects that were initiated during his previous administration, many of which had stalled under the outgoing government.
Speaking to clergy in Kumasi on Sunday, President Mahama stated, “I’ve assured Otumfuo that we will complete the Sewua hospital this year. Its completion will help alleviate congestion at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, allowing for vital rehabilitation work to proceed there.”
In addition, Mahama revealed that he had met with the contractors, Euroget De-Invest S.A., and they have committed to resuming work on the Afari Military Hospital to ensure its prompt completion.
The President also addressed other projects such as the Suame Interchange and various roadworks, which were started without dedicated funding. He acknowledged the need to find financial sources to expedite these initiatives and improve conditions for Kumasi residents.
“We are actively seeking funding to accelerate progress on these projects and alleviate the challenges and inconveniences faced by the people of Kumasi,” he said.
Furthermore, Mahama discussed the stalled second phase of the Kejetia Market project, which had been affected by the debt exchange. With official negotiations with the creditor committee now concluded, he expressed optimism that bilateral discussions with lenders will soon allow work to resume on the project.
“Now that the official negotiations are complete, we can engage with the lenders to restart work on Kumasi Market Phase 2,” he concluded.
