Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications

March 4, 2025 – Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, has dismissed claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was deliberately excluded from the National Economic Dialogue, an initiative organized by President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to address Ghana’s economic challenges.

His remarks come in response to concerns over the absence of NPP representatives at the high-profile event.

Kwakye Ofosu explained that the dialogue was intended to be an inclusive platform, open to all stakeholders. He stressed that there was no barrier preventing the NPP or any other political party from attending, even if they were not formally invited.

“I will need to check with the organisers for full confirmation, but I do know that individuals associated with the NPP were present. For example, Kwame Pianim, a prominent NPP member, attended. Additionally, former NPP appointees such as Dr. Paul Acquah and Dr. Ernest Addison, both former governors of the Bank of Ghana, were also there,” he stated.

Kwakye Ofosu further emphasized that there was no policy in place to exclude anyone based on their political affiliation. “However, I will verify if the NPP or any other political party was specifically invited,” he added.

He continued, “The NPP, just a week ago, was publicly stating they might not participate. They were setting conditions for their attendance, giving little indication that they wanted to be part of it. The NPP has a history of boycotting similar events, such as the Senchi Economic Forum. Their actions show a reluctance to engage in these discussions. While it’s unfortunate, it is important to note that nothing prevented them from attending.”

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to support the reset agenda, emphasizing that collective action is crucial to steering the country’s economy toward recovery and long-term growth.

During the launch of the National Economic Dialogue, President Mahama underscored that the event was not merely about discussing economic problems but about identifying practical solutions and laying out a progressive roadmap for the nation’s financial future.

He described the reset agenda as a national call to action, aimed at rebuilding the economy to benefit all Ghanaians.
