The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the government plans to transform the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, commonly known as Ridge Hospital, into a teaching hospital.

This move is part of the government’s broader initiative to enhance the country’s healthcare system.

Akandoh explained that the government intends to ensure that each of Ghana’s sixteen regions has at least one regional hospital. He emphasized the importance of upgrading existing healthcare facilities alongside building new ones.

“We are not only focused on constructing new healthcare facilities but also on refurbishing and upgrading existing ones. We cannot neglect the hospitals that are already in place. For instance, we plan to improve Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, as well as Korle Bu Teaching Hospital,” Akandoh said.

He further added that the government is committed to upgrading the Greater Accra Regional Hospital into a teaching hospital, with a focus on enhancing the efficiency of health services across the country.

This includes expanding the number of CHPS compounds and improving the connectivity between health facilities for better service delivery.
