Residents of Amakye Bare in the Ashanti Region’s Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality are urgently appealing for government support following a destructive storm that ravaged their community, leaving hundreds homeless and damaging critical infrastructure.

The storm, which struck on March 4, destroyed over 60 homes and four schools, including Barekuma R/C Primary and Barekuma D/A Junior High School, displacing approximately 1,000 people and injuring at least 16.

Assembly Member Stephen Kwadwo Ampofo reports that the community has received minimal assistance, with the Kyidomhene of the area and his brothers providing roofing sheets and carpenters for initial repairs. However, he emphasizes that the scale of the devastation requires significant government intervention.

“The current situation is unbearable, and without support, we are struggling to cope,” Ampofo stated. “We are calling on individuals, the government, and other stakeholders to intervene.”

While final-year students at Barekuma D/A Junior High School have resumed classes in preparation for their BECE exams, other students remain at home due to the lack of alternative learning spaces. The community is desperate for immediate aid to rebuild their lives and restore normalcy.
