President John Dramani Mahama has urged the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to actively critique government policies, emphasizing that accountability is essential for national progress.

During a courtesy visit by GBA leader Efua Ghartey on March 26, 2025, Mahama stressed the importance of constructive criticism from civil society organizations, including the GBA, to ensure good governance.

“You have been strong advocates for the rule of law, human rights, the constitution, and freedoms. I believe the role you play is vital for our society’s advancement,” Mahama stated.

He encouraged the GBA to speak out when necessary, saying, “As I have told civil society organizations, they must have the freedom to point out when things are not going as they should. Just as the local saying goes, ‘if someone is charting a path, they may not know it’s crooked.’ It is only the onlookers who can point it out.”

Mahama concluded by welcoming feedback from the GBA, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to transparency and dialogue.
