The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will today resume mediation efforts aimed at resolving the long-standing Bawku conflict.
His renewed involvement follows assurances from President John Mahama that the peace initiative, led by the Asantehene, will continue as a key part of national efforts to restore stability to the conflict-prone region.
In a statement dated April 15, the Asantehene confirmed that mediation sessions will be held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi from April 28 to May 1, with the goal of fostering dialogue between the opposing factions.
Retired Security Analyst Colonel Festus Aboagye has urged broader support for Otumfuo’s efforts, advocating for the use of multi-track diplomacy to strengthen the peace process.
In an opinion piece published Monday, Colonel Aboagye emphasized the need to involve a wider range of stakeholders, including diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women-led peacebuilding groups, to help craft a more sustainable and inclusive resolution.
“Support Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s mediation through multi-track diplomacy, incorporating diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women’s peacebuilding networks,” he proposed.
