Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has delivered a scathing critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that the party has failed to learn from its electoral defeat and is ill-prepared for a return to power.

Mr. Gyamfi responded to comments made during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour,” where the party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, attributed their electoral loss to the “arrogance of power.”

Gyamfi questioned the sincerity of Dr. Bawumia’s acknowledgment, accusing him of shifting blame rather than taking responsibility. “Even now, they are pointing fingers at others instead of taking full responsibility. When Ghanaians were crying out, they danced offbeat. We warned them, but they refused to listen,” he stated.

He further criticized the NPP’s recent admission of arrogance, stating, “It’s taken only four months in opposition for them to claim they’ve repented. But even now, they’re making statements more arrogant than before.”

Gyamfi dismissed claims that Ghana’s current economic recovery is a result of NPP policies, arguing, “That is simply not true. When they left office, the economy was in disarray. Growth was largely due to the IMF programme and the addition of two new oil fields under President Mahama. The IMF itself acknowledged they missed key performance targets.”

Addressing the recent internal disputes within the NPP, Gyamfi described the party as being in crisis. “They are fighting among themselves over just 1,000 Ghana cedis. Young party members are stabbing each other. This is not the behaviour of a party prepared to govern,” he said.

He also criticized what he perceived as a lack of leadership and discipline within the party. “There is no respect, no order—just chaos. Ghanaians need competent leadership with a clear vision, not a party consumed by internal strife,” he asserted.

In contrast, Gyamfi praised the current administration of President John Mahama for what he described as tangible economic improvements. “We are seeing real results—fuel prices are dropping, the cedi is gaining strength, and the dollar rate is stabilising. This is the leadership Ghanaians voted for,” he said. “If the NPP chooses to continue fighting and harming themselves, that’s entirely their decision.” For listeners in Kumasi and across Ghana, Gyamfi’s comments highlight the ongoing political discourse and the NPP’s internal challenges as they navigate their post-election period.
