The Ghana Police Service is actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies in Nigeria to facilitate the safe return of two kidnapping victims and the transfer of the arrested suspects to Ghana.
In a successful joint operation involving the Ghana Police Service, the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and the Nigeria Police Force, the two Ghanaian women who were abducted and featured in a widely circulated distressing video have been rescued. The disturbing footage had triggered significant public outcry and concern across Ghana.
As a result of this collaborative effort, eight suspects have been apprehended in connection with the kidnapping. These arrests were made in various locations across both Ghana and Nigeria, demonstrating seamless cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two nations in tracking and apprehending the perpetrators.
Addressing members of the press in Accra on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), confirmed that arrangements are underway to ensure the safe transportation of both the rescued victims and the arrested suspects back to Ghana.
“As of today, both suspects and victims are with the Nigerian authorities, and efforts are being made to transport the victims to Ghana and also extradite the suspects to Ghana to assist investigations,” DCOP Donkor stated.
She further revealed that the families of the victims had paid a total sum of GHS18,000 to various mobile phone numbers as ransom payments demanded by the kidnappers.
However, DCOP Donkor reassured the public that the two victims are currently in stable and good health. “Information received from our counterparts in Nigeria indicates that both victims are fine. They have received routine medical checks,” she added. This collaborative success underscores the commitment of both Ghanaian and Nigerian authorities to combat cross-border crime and ensure the safety and security of their citizens.
