Martin Amoah, popularly known as Baba Macho, has confessed to the murder of Patricia Nimako during a mobile money (MoMo) robbery in Krofrom, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed.
According to DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the region, Baba Macho admitted to shooting Nimako during the robbery while being interrogated in the presence of independent witnesses.
DSP Ahianyo disclosed that following his arrest, the suspect led officers to his hometown of Diaso, where the murder weapon was recovered. The firearm has since been sent to the police forensic lab for ballistic analysis to confirm its use in the crime.
“The arrest and confession of Baba Macho have been pivotal in resolving this high-profile case,” DSP Ahianyo said. “His cooperation led directly to the recovery of crucial evidence.”
The police report that security has improved in the Ashanti Region since the arrest, with no further MoMo robberies reported. The dismantling of the gang responsible for the recent wave of violent attacks has brought a sense of relief to mobile money vendors and the public.
DSP Ahianyo confirmed that Baba Macho is currently facing trial, and emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring justice for the victims of the gang’s crimes.
The incident had sparked widespread fear among residents, particularly vendors handling mobile money transactions. With the main suspect in custody and legal proceedings underway, authorities are optimistic about restoring long-term peace and safety in the region.
