The Court of Appeal has overturned the conviction of the man widely known as the mechanic of convicted armed robber Ataa Ayi, ordering his immediate release.

The man, whose name was withheld during trial proceedings, had been serving time after being found guilty of aiding and abetting the infamous criminal. However, his legal team challenged the ruling, arguing that the evidence presented at the initial trial was insufficient to support the conviction.

On Thursday, June 5, the appellate court agreed, ruling that the prosecution failed to establish beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had direct involvement in Ataa Ayi’s criminal operations.

The ruling brings an end to years of legal battles and offers a fresh start for the freed man, who has consistently maintained his innocence.
