Lawra Constituency Member of Parliament, Bide A. Ziedieng, has brought attention to a tragic incident in which seven students from Lawra Senior High School drowned while attempting to cross the Black Volta River near the Burkina Faso border.

The MP expressed his condolences to the bereaved families, the school’s headmaster, staff, and students.

According to Hon. Ziedieng, the tragedy could have been prevented if the students had access to life jackets.

He emphasized the need for urgent action, calling on the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to provide life jackets for communities along the Black Volta River.

The MP also stressed the importance of public education on safety and river transport security, urging stakeholders to prioritize the safety and development of the people over partisanship and political point-scoring.

He concluded by appealing to Parliament to take action in memory of the seven students who lost their lives.
