ACCRA, GHANA – The University of Ghana has immediately suspended all social gatherings on campus following a recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases. This decisive action comes after the university confirmed a rise in infections on Monday, June 23, urging the community to take immediate precautionary measures.

On Thursday, June 26, the university’s health directorate released a statement revealing that both suspected and confirmed cases have been reported within the university environment. This has prompted the reactivation of health protocols and a call for heightened vigilance.

The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs has issued a directive for all student bodies, including the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), and all departmental and school associations, to halt all scheduled events and week celebrations until further notice.

Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, signed the statement, emphasizing that these measures are crucial to protecting the health and well-being of everyone on campus. The university is urging all staff, students, and visitors to remain vigilant and strictly follow recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread.

University authorities are calling for full compliance from students and campus organizations to support efforts in containing the virus’s spread.
