The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to meet with the Kusaug Traditional Council today, Monday, June 30, 2025, as part of intensified efforts to bring lasting peace to the conflict-ridden Bawku area.

The meeting, announced in a statement from the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, underscores His Majesty’s unwavering commitment to mediating the long-standing crisis in the region.

“His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will meet with the Kusaug Traditional Council on Monday, 30th June, 2025,” the official release stated.

The Palace urged all stakeholders and parties involved in the Bawku conflict to cooperate fully and support the peace initiative. “Asantehene requests all stakeholders to cooperate for us to find a lasting peace in Bawku,” the statement added.

Otumfuo has played a key role in previous mediation efforts, including peace talks held in Kumasi earlier this year that contributed to a period of relative calm. With negotiations having stalled in recent months, the Asantehene is now reviving the dialogue with renewed focus on long-term stability.

The meeting with the Kusaug Traditional Council is seen as a critical step in re-engaging key actors and sustaining momentum toward a peaceful resolution.
