Telecommunications companies in Ghana have begun implementing a government-mandated increase in data bundle volumes by 10 to 15 percent, effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The move, led by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, is aimed at addressing public concerns over the high cost of internet services and improving digital affordability and access nationwide.
Revised Data Bundles
Under the new policy:
- MTN has increased data volumes by 15%
- Telecel and AT have applied a 10% increase across their bundle packages
Notable adjustments include:
- AT’s GHC400 plan now offers 236GB, up from 195GB
- Telecel’s GHC400 bundle now delivers 250GB, a dramatic jump from 90GB
- MTN has reintroduced its GHC399 plan, offering 214GB, compared to 92.88GB previously available under a GHC350 plan
Government Oversight
Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Sam George, has instructed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to ensure full compliance from all telecom providers. He warned that operators who fail to adhere to the new directive will face regulatory penalties.
Leading up to the changes, telcos began notifying subscribers of the revised pricing and data volumes, in line with the government’s push to enhance consumer value.
