The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency. This decision follows a dispute over the validity of results from the December 7, 2024, general election.

In a press release dated July 2 and signed by Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC stated that the move was agreed upon after a meeting held on July 1 with representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The controversy originated from concerns raised by the NDC, which challenged the use of scanned Pink Sheets—official polling station result forms—from 37 polling stations. According to the NDC, the documents were provided by the NPP and lacked proper verification. The party called for a complete rerun in all 37 affected stations.

However, the NPP argued that only three outstanding polling station results needed to be collated to finalize the outcome. They maintained that the scanned Pink Sheets were reviewed and accepted by NDC agents during the initial process.

The EC explained that the original Pink Sheets were destroyed after political party supporters stormed the collation centre. In their place, scanned versions were used during the collation of results.

After thorough discussions, the Commission decided that a rerun would be held in 19 of the 37 stations. These particular scanned Pink Sheets, while endorsed by party agents, lacked verification by the Presiding Officers. The remaining 18 stations’ results, verified by both agents and Presiding Officers, will stand.

The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025. The EC has assured the public of a transparent, credible, and peaceful electoral process. The Ghana Police Service has been tasked with providing the necessary security to ensure order during the election.
